Hon. James K. Bartleman Lt. Governor of Ontario presents a special medal to Ruwan Jayakody

    Thirty individuals from various fields and cultural communities of Canada,were honored for their work and services rendered to their field and community during the previous years. Radio and TV personalities,educationists,and high-profile business personnel were honoured.The presentation of the award held in 15 th of September 2005 at 6.00 pm,at the Main Legislative Building of Ontario Government and was hosted by honourable James K. Bartlement,Lieutenant governor of Ontario Canada at the Lieutenant Governors suite.
Thirty Canadian recipients representing a variety of disciplines ranging from the media,humanities,art & culture to industry and science.Chef Ruwan Jayakody was selected from the Art &Culture category,being nominated by the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada..
Representing Canada`s Governor General and Her Majesty the Queen was Ontario`s lieutenant Governor Honorable James K .Bartleman,had the honor of making the award presentation to Chef Jayakody.Notable guests included the Premier of Ontario ,Mr.Dalton McGuinty and few other political leadership of the province and the country.
    Chef Ruwan was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the development of the Canadian culinary industry since his arrival to Canada 10 years ago.He has represented the Canadian National Culinary Teams in international competitions garnering numerous medals which only helped to build the reputation of the Canadian Culinary industry.
    In 1997 Ruwan has started his own business 'Ruwan`s Cake Art -Toronto and now become one of a major suppliers of fine pastries and culinary creations to the hotel and restaurant trade in Canada.
    His culinary wonders have earned him a chapter in the World Celebrity Chefs published in the United Kingdom and France in 1997.In this year Ruwan was recognized as Certified World Master Chef ,by recognizing his both skill and academic knowledge and his international reputation.
    Over the past 25 years Chef Ruwan has built a strong international reputation in his field since he switched career paths from mechanical engineering to the culinary arts in 1980.His unique talents have served him well in  journalism and ,broadcasting.At the same time he has taken the time to assist in training others who wish to work in this rewarding discipline plus giving a helping hand to the less fortunate in his community
